About Us
[ Outline of Kamogawa-kai ]
- We
organize visits to traditional industries, high-tech enterprises,
cultural properties and historic sites once every month. We also plan
activities that enhance the appreciation of art, lectures by people
from Japan and abroad, experiences of Japanese traditional culture and
much more.
- We offer
members' houses for parties or lessons in calligraphy, ikebata,
origami, cooking, wearing kimono and so on, so that overseas friends
can better understand Japanese life. We organize cooking classes and
talks at members' homes with our friends from overseas to introduce
their countries' customs and habits.
- Most
program are free for overseas friends. But sometimes a small covering fee
will be requested.
- Our
newsletter is put up at universities in Kyoto. Kyoto City International
Community House and about 20 other places. We send our newsletter to
people who are not able to find it.
[ Aims ]
- KAMOGAWA-KAI
aims to deepen mutual understanding by introducing the many sides of
Japan to overseas friends. We promote cultural exchanges, learning and
research and international good will towards everyone.
- KAMOGAWA-KAI
is a non-profit and voluntary organization. It stands ready to offer
access to various programs to help overseas friends deepen their
appreciation of different cultures and peoples. Over seas visitors and
long-term residents are all welcomed to join our activities.
- KAMOGAWA-KAI is independent of any political, religious or ideological affiliation.
[ History ]
1984 Kamogawa-kai was established.
1997 Won the Kyoto Shimbun Newspaper’s Citizen’s International Exchange Prize.
1999 Organized the concert for the Choir of Penbroke College, Cambridge, in Kyoto.
2004
Organized an International Artists Exhibition in a traditional
Kyoto house gallery, commemorating our 20th anniversary.
2014 Spring party celebrating our 30th (Our 281st gathering)
2019 Spring party celebrating our 35th (our 324th gathering)
2024 Our 40th anniversary party

<Operation> KAMOGAWA-KAI is a voluntary organization. It operates on membership fee, donations and bazaar earnings.
